More Than Jewelry: My “Shou Yi” Journey and a Moment of Awakening
Before FENGSHUI ENERGY came to be, my life was that of a journalist. For several years, I led a special photo-documentary series called ”Shou Yi“, a name that means "Guardian of the Ancient Crafts." My work was to find and record the stories of remarkable artisans, those whose skills were being washed away by the tides of the modern world.
I can still vividly recall a master jade carver in an ancient water town, nestled in the mists of southern China. His studio was small, the air thick with fine stone dust and the low, steady hum of his tools. I watched as he picked up a seemingly ordinary piece of rough stone, holding it up to the light for a long time, as if in silent conversation.
True carving, he told me, isn't about forcing your idea onto a stone. It's about reading the life that is already within it. Its fissures, its impurities, the direction of its grain—all of these things whisper what it wants to become. "My work," he said, "is simply to polish away what is unnecessary, allowing the spirit already inside to reveal itself."
I watched him spend hours, sometimes days, perfecting a single, tiny curve, just to allow the light to flow across it in the softest possible way. To witness a rough, cold stone transform into a warm, vital work of art was to witness a process of immense patience and respect. In that moment, I saw more than just exquisite skill; I saw a profound philosophy: Beauty is not created; it is discovered and released.
Throughout my “Shou Yi” journey, I came to understand a single word from these artisans: “Harmony.” A harmony with their materials, a harmony with nature, and most importantly, a harmony within themselves.
They did not fight against time; instead, they embraced it as their greatest partner. This mindset—one of focus, reverence for materials, and a symbiosis with all things—is what I call "the warmth of time."
Yet, when I returned from their world to my own—a city life driven by screens, endless notifications, and deadlines—I felt a powerful sense of disconnect. We chase efficiency, but we have lost our patience. We crave connection, yet we feel increasingly isolated and anxious.
A question began to form in my mind: Could we create a “tool” that, in our most chaotic moments, could remind us to be patient with our inner world, just as the master carver was with his jade, and rediscover our own inner calm and light?
FENGSHUI ENERGY is the answer to that question.
It is an extension of my life as a journalist, another way to express the spirit of “Shou Yi”. We collaborate with these gifted artisans, blending their ancient crafts with a modern aesthetic. Each bracelet is mindfully polished and selected, carrying the artisan's focus and the balancing wisdom of Feng Shui philosophy.
It is more than just an ornament. It is a meditation tool you can touch, an anchor point to help you find your center in an unbalanced world. It is an invitation to bring the Eastern wisdom of "discovering and releasing your inner beauty" into your daily life.
This is our story. It began with an authentic quest, and it hopes you will join us to begin your own personal journey toward balance and harmony.
